Paint-spiration

We moved into our newly built home about 2 years ago now… and I may or may not already have a spreadsheet of “to-dos” for the next 5 years or so.

The first thing that we’ve been tackling (and still debating on) is the PAINTING.

First thing first. Our house has been painted with Analytical Gray (SW7051). Every. Single. Room. And it’s not the good satin or eggshell. It’s builder flat. Which means that finger prints and scuffs will NOT come off with a magic eraser. A pain in the butt with a toddler running around. I wanted there to be some color but not too much color. Enough that I’d be happy with it for years to come.

I cannot live in gray any more. Our new house was a blank slate just waiting for me to put a paint brush to it.

Our House

Our home has such an open floor plan that I know that any paint or décor must be cohesive. Just like everyone else in this world, I like what I like. I wanted this home to be unlike our first home and more “homey”. Grays are great. Brown tones, sure. Whites, why not? So, I whipped out my color wheel and went to town.

Here’s what I’ve come up with (so far…)

Urbane bronze (SW7048) for my dining room. It’s a BEAUTIFUL shade of brown & black. I wanted some drama in the dining room but not dark and dank. This color is beautiful on the wall and pops with the shiplap chair rail I did to accompany it. The shiplap was so easy to do and makes a statement.

Earl Grey (SW7660) for my first floor bathroom and laundry room. A creamy shade of bluey-gray. So pretty with my white and ivory accents.

Anonymous (SW7046) for the hallway, mud room, and our master toilet room. This may be one of my favorite colors! It has a bit of brown in it but gray too! And it’s so rich and calming.

Austere gray (SW6184) *I think* for the kitchen. It’s more of a gray-gray instead of a beigey-gray. I think it’ll look nice with our espresso cabinets and, our eventual, quartz counters. This is the one color I’m not sure of so now it remains Analytical.

I’m going to keep Analytical gray for our great room and landing. It really is a nice greige color that complements my home decor and blends in.

Accents around the house— Iron Ore (SW7069)& Ivory Lace (SW7016). I took down our French pantry doors and painted them Iron Ore. What a statement it makes. The color doesn’t show finger prints at all! And my kitchen chairs are ivory lace. It’s a nice warm white that doesn’t look too stark.

Still debating on the master bedroom color and the rest of the second floor. There are just so many choices!

How did you decide what colors to paint? Share your method with me!
